Design Your Own
Seven tips for designing your own wallpaper
Get professional results from our Design Your Own tool – scale, repeat and colour explained.
Our Design Your Own tool lets you start from any catalogue pattern or your own artwork. These tips will help you create something that looks fantastic at full wall size.
- Start with a high-resolution image. For murals, photos of at least 3000 pixels wide print best.
- Choose the right layout. Straight repeats feel orderly; half-drop repeats hide the grid and feel more natural; mirror repeats create kaleidoscopic symmetry.
- Get the scale right. Turn on the 'roll guides' and person silhouette to judge scale against real life.
- Try two-tone recolouring. Convert any design into two colours of your choice – brilliant for matching paint.
- Preview on your own wall. Take a photo, drag the four corners into place and see the design in perspective with your own lighting.
- Protect your furniture. Use the 'protect objects' brush so sofas and lamps stay in front of the wallpaper.
- Order a sample of your design before committing to the full wall.
