How to wallpaper internal and external corners

Quick answer

Never wrap a full drop around a corner. For internal corners, cut the drop so it turns about 1–2 cm onto the next wall, then hang the next piece to a fresh plumb line, overlapping the turn. For external corners, wrap about 2–3 cm around, then hang the next piece to a new plumb line just short of the corner edge.

You will need

Step by step

  1. Measure to the corner Measure from the last drop to the corner at top, middle and bottom; take the widest.
  2. Cut the turn Add 1–2 cm (internal) or 2–3 cm (external) and cut the drop lengthways.
  3. Hang the first piece Hang into or round the corner and smooth firmly.
  4. New plumb line Mark a line on the next wall the width of the offcut from the corner.
  5. Hang the offcut Hang the remaining piece to the line, overlapping the turn, and trim if needed.

Questions & answers

Why do I need a new plumb line after a corner?

Corners are rarely perfectly vertical. Restarting from a plumb line keeps the next wall straight.
