Check & Plaid Wallpaper for Bedrooms
Checks and plaids – gingham, tartan, windowpane, dogtooth – bring country-house cosiness and quiet tailoring.
Bedrooms are the perfect place to experiment because they are private and lived in mostly at night. A papered wall behind the bed acts like an oversized headboard.
Our edit of 42 original designs includes dogtooth, gingham, tartan, windowpane check. Highlights from the edit include Brandon Windowpane Check, Aveline Gingham, Tudor Gingham.

Styling tips
- Mix scales: a large check on the walls with a small gingham on a cushion feels relaxed, not fussy.
- Calming palettes and organic patterns help bedrooms feel restful.
- Kitchens, boot rooms and children's rooms all suit checks.
How much will I need?
A typical bedroom wall of about 3.6 m wide × 2.4 m high needs 7 drops. With a 26.5 cm pattern repeat you get 3 drops per 10 m roll, so you would order 3 rolls – from £132.60 on Standard paper to £217.62 on Luxe. Use the calculator on any product page for your exact walls.
Make it your own
Every design in this edit can be recoloured, rescaled and previewed on a photo of your own wall in Design Your Own, then printed made-to-measure.
Frequently asked questions
Is check & plaid wallpaper a good choice for a bedroom?
Kitchens, boot rooms and children's rooms all suit checks. Calming palettes and organic patterns help bedrooms feel restful. We currently have 42 check & plaid designs suited to bedrooms.
Can I change the colours of a design?
Yes – open any design in our Design Your Own tool to change colours, scale and layout, then order it made to measure for your wall.
How many rolls of wallpaper do I need?
Measure the width of each wall and the height from skirting to ceiling. Our rolls are 52 cm wide and 10 m long. Use the roll calculator on every product page – it accounts for the pattern repeat and recommends one spare roll.
