Chinoiserie Wallpaper for Hallways
Chinoiserie began in 18th-century Europe as an imaginative response to imported painted silks and porcelain. Branches, blossom and birds give walls a hand-painted, collected-over-time feel.
The hallway makes the first impression of your home. Pattern disguises scuffs and adds interest to a space you pass through many times a day.
Our edit of 124 original designs includes blossom branch, cherry bough, garden birds, garden of birds, lacquer garden, moon gate and more. Highlights from the edit include Kerrigan Garden Birds, Montacute Garden of Birds, Kelmarsh Peony Bough.

Styling tips
- Lacquer-red, celadon and gold accents suit chinoiserie, as do bamboo-effect furniture and blue-and-white ceramics.
- Choose our scrubbable Premium paper for high-traffic areas.
- Run it all the way round a dining room or bedroom to create the immersive 'painted room' effect it was invented for.
How much will I need?
A typical hallway wall of about 5.0 m wide × 2.5 m high needs 10 drops. With a 64 cm pattern repeat you get 3 drops per 10 m roll, so you would order 4 rolls – from £176.80 on Standard paper to £290.16 on Luxe. Use the calculator on any product page for your exact walls.
Make it your own
Every design in this edit can be recoloured, rescaled and previewed on a photo of your own wall in Design Your Own, then printed made-to-measure.
Frequently asked questions
Is chinoiserie wallpaper a good choice for a hallway?
Run it all the way round a dining room or bedroom to create the immersive 'painted room' effect it was invented for. Choose our scrubbable Premium paper for high-traffic areas. We currently have 124 chinoiserie designs suited to hallways.
Are your designs original?
Yes. Every pattern is an original Wallpaper Kingdom artwork created in-house; we do not reproduce other designers' work.
Is your wallpaper paste-the-wall?
All Wallpaper Kingdom papers are non-woven and paste-the-wall, so they are quicker to hang and dry-strippable when you want a change.
Which paper should I choose for a bathroom or kitchen?
Choose Premium (scrubbable) or Luxe and make sure the room is well ventilated. Avoid areas of direct water contact such as inside showers.
