Dark & Moody Check & Plaid Wallpaper for Nurseries & Kids’ Rooms
Checks and plaids – gingham, tartan, windowpane, dogtooth – bring country-house cosiness and quiet tailoring.
Children's rooms suit gentle, playful prints. Our inks are water-based and our papers are low-VOC, so they are a lovely choice for nurseries.
Dark and moody wallpaper makes rooms feel cocooning and dramatic, and paradoxically can make small rooms feel larger as the corners recede.
Our edit of 15 original designs includes dogtooth, gingham, tartan, windowpane check. Highlights from the edit include Skelton Gingham, Aveline Gingham, Mortimer Gingham.

Styling tips
- Mix scales: a large check on the walls with a small gingham on a cushion feels relaxed, not fussy.
- Use warm lamps rather than overhead light to make dark walls glow.
- Pick a design with a sophisticated palette that can grow with your child.
- Kitchens, boot rooms and children's rooms all suit checks.
How much will I need?
A typical nursery & kids wall of about 3.2 m wide × 2.4 m high needs 7 drops. With a 26.5 cm pattern repeat you get 3 drops per 10 m roll, so you would order 3 rolls – from £132.60 on Standard paper to £217.62 on Luxe. Use the calculator on any product page for your exact walls.
Make it your own
Every design in this edit can be recoloured, rescaled and previewed on a photo of your own wall in Design Your Own, then printed made-to-measure.
