Feature wall ideas: where to put one and what to choose
Quick answer
Choose the wall your eye lands on first – usually behind a bed, sofa or dining table, or a chimney breast. A feature wall is the ideal place for a big repeat, a mural or a bold colour you might not want on all four walls. Keep the other walls in a colour picked from the design.
Best walls to feature
Behind the bed, the chimney breast, the wall behind the sofa, the end wall of a long room, or a wall in an alcove.
What to avoid
Walls broken up by several doors or windows rarely make good feature walls.

Questions & answers
How many rolls do I need for a feature wall?
A typical 3.5 m × 2.4 m wall needs 3 rolls with a 53 cm repeat. See our roll guides for other sizes.
Is a feature wall outdated?
A single papered wall is still a practical way to introduce pattern without committing to a whole room.
