Paste-the-wall vs paste-the-paper wallpaper: what's the difference?

Quick answer

Paste-the-wall papers are non-woven: you paste the wall and hang the dry paper, with no soaking time, and they dry strip later. Paste-the-paper wallpapers are pasted on the back and left to soak before hanging, which takes longer and they usually need soaking or steaming to remove. All Wallpaper Kingdom rolls are paste-the-wall.

Which is easier for beginners?

Paste-the-wall. There is no pasting table, no soak time and less risk of the paper stretching or shrinking, so seams stay tighter.

Are there any downsides?

Non-woven papers are a little stiffer, so very uneven walls still need preparation. You also need to work in sections because the paste is on the wall.
