Blue Chinoiserie Wallpaper for Dining Rooms
Chinoiserie began in 18th-century Europe as an imaginative response to imported painted silks and porcelain. Branches, blossom and birds give walls a hand-painted, collected-over-time feel.
Dining rooms come alive by lamplight, which is why rich, dark or highly decorative wallpapers excel here. Consider papering all four walls for an enveloping, intimate mood.
Blue is calm, trustworthy and endlessly versatile, from airy duck egg to inky indigo.
Our edit of 25 original designs includes blossom branch, cherry bough, garden birds, garden of birds, pavilion garden, peony bough and more. Highlights from the edit include Montacute Garden of Birds, Rossiter Garden Birds, Lacock Peony Bough.

Styling tips
- Lacquer-red, celadon and gold accents suit chinoiserie, as do bamboo-effect furniture and blue-and-white ceramics.
- Pale blues open up north-facing rooms when paired with warm whites; deep blues cocoon.
- Dark grounds hide marks and make candlelight glow.
- Run it all the way round a dining room or bedroom to create the immersive 'painted room' effect it was invented for.
How much will I need?
A typical dining room wall of about 4.0 m wide × 2.4 m high needs 8 drops. With a 64 cm pattern repeat you get 3 drops per 10 m roll, so you would order 3 rolls – from £132.60 on Standard paper to £217.62 on Luxe. Use the calculator on any product page for your exact walls.
Make it your own
Every design in this edit can be recoloured, rescaled and previewed on a photo of your own wall in Design Your Own, then printed made-to-measure.
